What is Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD)?
Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD) is a condition related to brain development that affects individual’s social interaction and communication. The disorder also includes limited and repetitive patterns of behavior. The term “spectrum” in ASD refers to the wide range of symptoms and severity. Individuals with ASD will require the appropriate medically necessary treatment in order to achieve the ability to function independently. While there is no cure for ASD, intensive, early treatment can make a big difference in the lives of many children.
What is Applied Behavior Analysis(ABA) Therapy?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is a proven, evidence-based treatment that helps individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and provides families the tools to support the individual through the treatment process. ABA therapy is a specialized treatment plan based on individuals specific needs. The treatment plan will be created to increase individual’s skills and reduce problem behaviors. The team BCBA, LBS, RBT, parents collaborates to improve individuals learning, behavior and independence by implementing the treatment plan. ABA is also effective in treating individuals with different disabilities.
What is Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA)?
The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is a master graduate or doctorate level clinician with an advanced certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis and a BCBA certificate trained to provide and supervise behavior analysis. The BCBA conducts the functional behavior analysis, designs the behavior intervention plan and treatment plan. BCBA’s are responsible for providing supervision and ongoing training to the RBT assigned to the client as prescribed in the treatment plan as well as implementing a client’s program and reporting on progress. The BCBA will organize and maintain data collection and analysis for programs, collaborate with related service providers and provide ongoing parent/guardian training.
What is Licensed Behavior Specialists (LBS)?
The Licensed Behavior Specialist (LBS) is a master graduate level or higher level clinician, with a certificate in psychology, special education, social work, speech language therapy, occupational therapy, professional therapy, or another related field LBS have completed a major course of study that relates to behavior analysis. They are licensed by board of medicine in the state of Pennsylvania. They have extensive experience and training working with individuals with ASD.
What is Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT)?
The RBT is a professional who works with individuals directly and are under close supervision from the BCBA/LBS. RBT are only responsible for the direct implementation and data collection of behavior-analytic services. They provide one-to-one social, behavioral, and emotional support to the individual, as outlined in the treatment plan.
